Abstract

Bead-on-plate welding of aluminum alloys was conducted with a double pulsed current waveform and the profile was achieved. The acquired current and voltage waveform has a high repeatability, and the electrical parameters diagram indicates that torch inclination has a negligible effect on the welding stability, but has a quite distinct effect on the welding spatter, which is caused by the controlled droplet impingement. Meanwhile, the penetration of the weld bead varies with the different energy input, which is closely related to and can be adjusted by the parameters of double pulsed current waveform, such as the increase of penetration depth with the increase of the pulse number in the thermal pulse phase.
