Malaysian Technical Universities Conference on Engineering and Technology (MUCET 2017) 6th – 7th December 2017, Park Royal Hotel, Penang, MalaysiaCHAIRMAN OF MALAYSIAN TECHNICAL UNIVERSITIES CONFERENCE ON ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY (MUCET 2017)Assalamualaikum w.b.t and Salam 1Malaysia.It is great pleasure to welcome all delegates to the Malaysian Technical Universities Conference on Engineering and Technology (MUCET 2017).Competitive advantage in today’s globalized economy lies principally in fostering the skills, knowledge, creativity and competencies of people and these cuts across nations, regions, sectors and organizations. This is very significant as it is explicit recognition that individual human development is fundamental to our collective development as societies. As the success in the 21st century is driven by excellence in engineering and technology innovation, by pushing the boundaries of knowledge and braving through discoveries of new, innovative and improved product and processes, we, as technical universities must play key role in fostering these skills and provides the best effort to be the pillar for these success. While we face significant competition for developing and instilling the engineering and technology skills within our region, other nations are also putting in place measures to boost and strengthen their capacity. Hence we must seize every opportunity to stand at par with other countries, while making sure sustainability and dynamic growth of Malaysia economy.The theme of this year’s MUCET, “Leading Innovation in Engineering, Science and Technology” is indeed in tandem with the government’s strategic initiatives at advancing, in a more effective manner on innovative human capital towards economic growth by utilizing every aspects of engineering, science and technology. Innovation, in deed is the key to global competitiveness that be able to provide new and better jobs, a resilient economy and strategic key in gaining the national goals. As a developing nation, Malaysia relies on its human capital and universities have a pivotal role in nurturing and producing this much-needed pool of competent and highly skilled labour force at every levels in our endeavour towards national transformation 2050 (TN50).I sincerely wish that this conference will provide a useful platform for participants, especially between technical universities academia, to interact, brain storming, and come up with concrete resolutions towards more effective collaboration in the area of science, engineering and technology.
