Abstract

The mission of the GPS Master Control Station (MCS) is to maximize the accuracy, reliability, integrity, and continuity of GPS services provided to the worldwide user community. A significant part of this mission involves the detection, prevention, and resolution of a host of satellite vehicle anomalies. Over the last several years, MCS Air Force and contractor personnel have amassed a considerable number of techniques for handling problems quickly, and in many cases preventing them altogether. This paper describes many of these tools in an attempt to impart a better understanding of behind-the-scenes operations to the GPS community at large. Included are examples of actual satellite problems and the analysis that resulted in their ultimate resolution.
