Abstract
1. 1. A method is presented for measuring heart rate, respiratory frequency and water loss in the intact turtle. 2. 2. Weight shifts during heating and cooling of Chrysemys picta and Terrapene ornata occur in opposite directions. 3. 3. We conclude that these weights shifts, interpreted as shifts in blood volume, suggest functional control over heating rate.
