Abstract

One of the main challenges of structural shape control is how to conciliate load-carrying capability and geometry adaptability. Machine-inspired solutions with moveable parts are functional but imply additional weight. Quantification criteria for this effect can be very useful for lightweight applications in order to evaluate the net advantage of geometry adaptability or for comparison with alternative solutions based on compliant structures.
