Abstract

Introduction: Prior to total knee arthroplasty (TKA), people with end-stage knee osteoarthritis (OA) typically favour their less-affected side during standing and transfers (e.g. sit-to-stand). This is known as weight bearing asymmetry (WBA). Post-operatively, WBA is improved; however, many people subsequently develop contralateral knee OA, which may be partly related to WBA in the pre-operative and early post-operative period. The aim of this study was to explore factors associated with WBA in the early post-operative period following TKA.
