Abstract
The magnetic suspension balance is described and new developments are presented. The advantage of gravimetry in the determination of surface area is discussed in comparison with the volumetric method. As an example of- the application of gravimetric measurements the oxidation kinetics of a POCO-graphite in CO 2 at 1000°C and the determination of the specific surface area before and after oxidation are described.
