Abstract

For road design and maintenance purposes, it is necessary to know the loads produced by vehicles in traffic. These loads can be obtained by static weighing of a sample of vehicles diverted from the traffic. Weighing in motion is developing and should make it possible to establish statistical distributions of realistic dynamic loads. An attempt is made to examine the importance of the dynamic effects on road behaviour expectations, considering approximations and the rate of progress in the theory of road mechanics.
