Abstract

The Internet offers researchers an inexpensive method for quickly surveying a large number of study participants. Aside from the advantages of cost, efficiency, and expediency, there are concerns surrounding the use of the Internet as a survey medium. Issues of participation, survey abandonment, and security must be considered. The use of surveys in health care requires special attention to security and privacy issues for adherence to HIPAA regulations. Further research on the topics of survey participation and survey abandonment is warranted.
