Abstract

Nowadays, companies form Extended/Virtual Enterprises in order to react better in a fast changing environment. These co-operations require a seamless flow of information between the companies-partners. However, companies today use a wide variety of applications and technologies, which, most of the times are not compatible with each other. This makes interoperability a major issue for a successful Extended/Virtual Enterprise. In this paper, the authors present the Web Services technology and why they are the most prominent technology on solving the interoperability problem. The work described in this paper has been performed in the initial stages of the IMS Smart-fm (IST-2001-52224) project.
