Abstract

This article is devoted to examining sustainable development and environmental problems in cities through analysis of open data from Russian and foreign web portals. The analysis is aimed at revealing the advantages and disadvantages of open data portals; the information obtained can be applied when creating portals for cities in the Russian Federation (specifically, the city of Chelyabinsk). Developing open data portals is an effective method of managing cities to ensure sustainable development. Actively implementing information technologies into urban management systems can improve control over the quality and promptness of city management, help manage city resources, and use resources rationally to solve a number of urban problems, including environmental ones.
