Abstract

The work is aiming to understand the dry sliding wear behavior of basalt particulate-reinforced aluminum 7075 composites. Aluminum 7075 and basalt particulate is used as matrix and reinforcement materials. Different wt% of composites is produced by stir casting process. It is observed from the SEM images that basalt particulates are uniformly distributed over the aluminum matrix. It is observed from the experimental result that the hardness of the composites increases with increases in wt% of the reinforcement. Addition of reinforcement increases the wear resistance and decreases the coefficient of friction. The worn surface of the composites is analyzed in detail and wear mechanism is reported.
