Abstract

In the present research work, wear modelling of Al-Al2O3 functionally graded material (FGM) prepared by fused deposition modelling (FDM) assisted investment casting (IC) process has been reported. The Taguchi L18 orthogonal array was used to develop a mathematical model for wear of FGM developed; based on dimensionless analysis. Six controllable input process parameters (namely filament proportion, volume of pattern, FDM density of pattern, barrel finishing time, barrel finishing media weight and number of IC slurry layers) were selected to give results in terms of wear. Analysis of variance has been conducted for the selection of significant parameters for mathematical modelling. The wear model developed was validated in terms of experimental results.
