Abstract

SEM studies were performed to analyse the mechanism of punch wear, using punches made of NC10 steel, in the shearing of three types of electrical sheet. After the shearing operation. subsurface microcracks of the matrix and the carbides within the cutting-edge zone, the flank and the front face were observed. On the basic of the frequency and the localisation of the microcracks, the areas in which abrasion or fatigue wear was predominant were determined.
