Abstract
The high fluid resistance of PTFE means that the primary cause of failure with lip seals manufactured from this material is wear. This feature describes research work that is being undertaken to provide a realistic basis for the numerical simulation of the wear process, and ultimately help to predict the operational life of the seals and assist in the development of improved designs.
