Abstract
This paper explains about obtaining the optimum result in the wear by reinforcing aluminium, copper and zinc alloys. The parent material used is aluminium oxide reinforced with silicon carbide, copper and zinc at different composition. The process carried out for fabricating the sample is powder metallurgy method. The results are analysed by both wear characteristics and metallurgical characteristics. The microstructure of the prepared alloys was studied using the metallurgical characteristics SEM analysis to know the elements used in the material. The wear rate was observed by using the pin on disc tester and co-efficient of the friction was studied. The optimum result of wear obtained for the composition of aluminium oxide, copper, zinc and silicon carbide is 0.36% and the optimum result of co-efficient of friction is obtained for the composition of aluminium oxide, copper and zinc is 0.86.
