Abstract

In a study to replicate the “weapons effect” (enhancement of aggression by the presence of weapons) under conditions which would minimize demand characteristics and determine the effects of weapon orientation, angered and non-angered subjects ( n = 72) viewed slides of weapons pointing toward or away from them or neutral slides. Aggressive behavior was greater for those subjects who viewed slides of weapons than those who viewed neutral slides.
