Abstract

The stability of the spherical copolymer micelles with respect to formation of the ordered morphologies is theoretically studied in the spirit of the weak segregation theory pioneered by Leibler and generalized by the author to cylindrical ordering (bottlebrushes). The symmetry of the morphology emerging is described by the dominant spherical harmonics of the composition profile. It is shown that, due to deep mathematical reasons, the symmetry of the ordered morphologies is strongly dependent on the micelle radius R, a series of the ordering transitions being expected with changing R. The general statements of the theory are illustrated via microscopic calculations for symmetric diblock copolymers.
