Abstract

AIM: To improve patient care and standardize workflow. Implanted intrathecal pump (IT pump) devices are used as a strategy in the management of chronic pain and chronic spasticity. Given the complexity of this therapy, there are many factors to consider when a patient with an IT pump is admitted to a healthcare facility. The impact of not knowing patients have IT pumps can be serious. Identification and management of patients admitted to facilities with IT pumps is a challenge noted by colleagues across the country.
