Abstract

The overall trend of environmental deterioration has not been controlled in China, where environmental accidents and disasters keep occurring. During the Seventeenth National Congress of the Communist Part of China (CPC), it was proclaimed that China will change its economic growth mode and consumption pattern, control and prevent environmental pollution, and rehabilitate the ecosystem. This work leading group consists of nearly twenty ministries, commissions, and offices, such as the MOH, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Finance (MOF), and the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS). Problems related to the environment, resources, and ecology in 2008 primarily included climate change; water pollution and a shortage of water resources; air pollution and acid rain; soil contamination, farmland decrease, soil erosion, and desertification; solid waste pollution; noise and light pollution; radiation and other pollution; and a decrease in forests, grasslands, and biodiversity.
