Abstract

WDM transmission tests have been performed on the recently installed segment H of the Trans-Pacific Cable (TPC-5) system. The length of this segment is ~ 6600 km. The tests were performed at various line transmission rates up to 25 Gbit/s, and at distances up to 19800 km, by looping the received signal back at the ends of the undersea cable. The test results demonstrate that the undersea portion of TPC-5 segment H can support transmission rates of 10 Gbit/s with margin.
