Abstract

This paper mainly explores the specific significance of climate sensitivity and the various methods to assess it. In this paper, three major methods to calculate climate sensitivity are evaluated, including direct observation, climate models, and paleoclimate dataset. Direct observation utilizes instrument records to obtain environment data since the mid-19thcentury. Climate models simulate physical processes in the environment to analyse the increase in temperature resulted from the doubling of atmospheric CO2 concentration. Paleoclimate dataset reconstructs past climate based on some natural resources, such as ocean sediments. Paleoclimate dataset and climate models often work together to calculate climate sensitivity.
