Abstract

This inaugural meeting provided the participant with a survey of the vast world of wave phenomena in plasmas as well as with detailed insight into certain areas currently considered relevant to plasma-physics research. Although not explicitly oriented towards fusion plasmas a significant part of the congress proceedings deals with problems important to present-day fusion research. One of the most interesting and valuable aspects of the congress was a series of invited survey lectures covering the currently interesting topic areas which, among others, included parametric instabilities – both theoretical and experimental – computer simulation of microinstabilities and a survey of RF-power absorption in plasmas above critical density. The following report reviews the main new results presented at the meeting; lack of space does not permit us to mention all contributions although the following report should serve as a representative sample of the conference.
