Abstract

We investigate wavepacket localization in a model system consisting of a ground symmetric double-well potential and an excited asymmetric double-well potential. We show that, under specific conditions, the interaction of this system with a sequence of short laser pulses can lead to wavepacket localization in one of the ground state wells. This effect is similar to the inhibition of the coherent evolution in a closed V-type system via repeated measurements with a sequence of pulses, an example of the so-called quantum Zeno effect.
