Abstract

The present development partly achieved within the framework of the european RACE/PAGEIN project, is aimed at demonstrating the feasibility of Direct Numerical Simulation techniques for future industrial developments, when combined with modern supercomputer technology and High Performance Computing Networking, enabling massive data transfers between vector and/or parallel supercomputers. The fast Navier-Stokes solver PEGASE, developed at ONERA and running on a Cray computer, has been parallelized to run on MIMD computers in a distributed environment including a Wavelet Analysis Module linked in-line with high performance graphics workstations. As the simulation develops in time, wavelet analysis is concurrently performed, flowfield structures may be interactively visualized without interrupting the numerical simulation. The experiments conducted here on a local aera basis may be considered as a prerequisite to future communication between remote computing sites via very high speed networks.
