Abstract

It is shown that surface-enhanced electromagnetic scattering can occur in small recessed metallic-walled structures through resonance of a propagating waveguide mode. Analytical solutions for simplified geometries provide a means to explain numerical simulations and, through a field-enhanced dipole moment, surface-enhanced Raman scattering. Material and geometry requirements result from the treatment.
