Abstract

To improve the accuracy and resolution of angle estimation with multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm, we study the design of low peak-to-average-power-ratio waveforms for multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) radar. Assuming that the prior knowledge about the target directions and amplitudes is available (e.g., by transmitting initial probing waveforms), we formulate a waveform design problem based on minimizing the asymptotic mean square error of MUSIC. An alternating direction method of multipliers is developed to tackle the encountered nonconvex optimization problem. Compared with the competing waveforms, the waveforms designed by the proposed algorithm exhibit higher resolution and lower estimation error.
