Abstract

This paper shows wave responses of very large floating rectangular plates under the thin plate and shallow water theory. First, the summary of wave response analysis method is briefly introduced. Next, numerical results of wave response of rectangular plates are shown and discussed for various parameters, incident wavelength and incident angle of incident shallow water waves, and flexural rigidity and aspect ratio of the plates. The characteristics of wave response of rectangular plates on shallow water are summed up. Wave induced maximum response values of shear force, bending moment and torsional moment are estimated. From these results the thickness of stiffened deck and bottom plate, and the minimum separation of longitudinal and transverse bulkhead to be needed can be estimated for initial structural design.
