Abstract

AbstractElectromagnetic effects in double‐negative (DNG) materials are considered from the theoretical and numerical points of view. Special attention is given to the causality aspects. The refracton of a cylindrical wave excited by a line source placed above a plane DNG slab and the wave propagation through the slab are studied. The DNG material response is modelled by the resonant constitutive parameters of the Lorentzian form. A novel technique for discretization of the constitutive equations is proposed. The negative refraction and slab focusing phenomena are clearly seen from the simulations. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
