Abstract

Approximations are developed to solve the stochastic differential equations encountered in wave propagation through random media. The results of three theoretical methods are compared with exact results which can be obtained in a one-dimensional Markovian model. The advantages of Van Kampen's marginal averages are demonstrated for the case when the correlation length of the fluctuations is comparable to the sample dimensions.
