Abstract

The methods developed in earlier papers for the alpha particle are used to describe the functions which can occur in the ground state wave function of H 3. Isobaric spin, orbital angular momentum and internal functions are classified according to their behaviour under permutations of the three particles, and combined to form completely antisymmetric functions. Three S-state functions, four P-state functions and four D-state functions are obtained. The kinetic energy and potential matrix elements are summed over spin and isobaric spin and integrated over all possible orientations of the nucleus, and are obtained as integrals over interparticle distances only.
