Abstract

A solution of the linearized Boussinesq equation for predicting the transient position of the water table in an unconfined aquifer system, which lies between two recharging canals at different elevations above the aquifer's base and receives time-varying recharge from the overlying soils, is presented. The solution for the constant rate of recharge is shown as a special case of the present solution. The effect of variation in the rate of recharge on the water table fluctuation is investigated with the help of an example.
