Abstract

The e are three distinct major regions in Alaska: the Pacific Mountain region, with its maritime climate on the seaward side; the Central Plateau region, which is relatively dry ; and the Arctic Slope region, which is semiarid. Precipitation ranges from an annual mean of less than 5 to over 200 in. Temperatures range from 100° to 71 °F. Figures 1-3, based on U.S. Weather Bureau data, indicate the precipitation and temperatures which may be expected in different areas of Alaska.
