Abstract

The Sainta Clara Water‐Conservation District was organized in 1928 under what is known as the water‐Conservation Act of 1927, Assembly Bill No. 233, and is, therefore, a legal entity. The assessed valuation of the District is approximately $20,000,000 and the boundaries embrace 110,000 acres of lands situated in the Santa Clara River Valley and the Oxnard Plain, in Ventura County, California. The lands in the incorporated cities of Oxnard, Santa Paula, and Fillmore are not in the District. The maximum annual tax which can be levied by the District is 15 cents on the $100 of assessed valuation of land and improvements. The District was organized for the purpose of projecting water‐rights and the conservation of the waters of the Santa Clara River and its tributaries. The District is dependent almost entirely on ground‐water as a source of supply for domestic and irrigation purposes.
