Abstract

In article number 1700161, Chiara Maccato and co-workers report on a hybrid vapor phase route for the growth of ZnO/Fe2O3 and ZnO/WO3 nanoheterostructures on fluorine-doped tin oxide substrates. A detailed characterization procedure allows to highligth an intimate contact and tailored interaction between the single oxides resulting in porous ZnO matrices conformally covered by tiny iron or tungsten oxide overlayers. These nanosystems show improved performances as photoanodes in solar-driven photoelectrochemical cells thanks to the enhanced separation of photogenerated charge carriers.
