Abstract
Abstract CaTa4O11, Ca1−xSrxTa4O11 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3), and LaZrTa3O11 with laminated structure consisting of MO6 and MO7 (M = Ta and/or Zr) layers were prepared by a polymerized complex method. These tantalates showed photocatalytic activities for water splitting without cocatalysts. The photocatalytic activity of CaTa4O11 was drastically improved by loading RuO2, Ni, and NiO cocatalysts and by partial substitution of Ca with Sr. The apparent quantum yield of the NiO(0.5 wt %)/Ca0.7Sr0.3Ta4O11 photocatalyst for water splitting was 5.8% at 254 nm.
