Abstract

SynopsisThe moisture retaining capacity per gram of dry matter in ground grains was found to be from 0.6 to 1.0 grams of water, depending upon the pressure (5 to 15 pounds per square inch) and the fineness of grinding. For ground corn cobs, the values were from about 1.6 to 2.1, and for hays, straws, corn stalks and sugarbeet pulp about 2.1 to 3.4 grams of water per gram of dry matter.
