Abstract

Beijing is the capital of China; it’s a city which is seriously short of water. Especially in recent years, the rapid growth of population together with the economic development results in large pressures on water resources in Beijing. In order to ensure the sustainable development of Beijing, we must implement strict water resource management. The purpose of this paper is to provide decision making basis for water resource management in Beijing. In this paper, we used the data provided by Beijing Water authority and Beijing Statistical Bureau, made quantitative analysis of water resource use in Beijing and established water use input-output table by combining the idea of water resources accounting and input-output accounting. Firstly, we compiled water use table in physical unit and combine with input-output table. Then considering the household consume a large amount of water, so we improved the traditional input-output table based on household production and consumption accounting theory, incorporate household sector into the first quadrant of input-output table. Thus we constructed input-output table that include household water use. The purpose is to discover which sectors should be restricted in the water resources management and which sectors should be encouraged in the future.
