Abstract

Abstract : The U.S. Army Engineer District, Nashville (CELRN), plans to apply the two-dimensional hydrodynamic and water quality model CE- QUAL-W2 to all Corps of Engineers reservoirs in the Cumberland basin to provide a tool capable of simulating temperature and water quality related issues that currently exist or may arise in the future. One of the planned applications was to the J. Percy Priest Reservoir located near Nashville, TN. The CELRN requested the assistance of the Water Quality and Contaminant Modeling Branch at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center to develop and apply CE-QUAL-W2 to this reservoir. The objective of this study is to provide a calibrated temperature and water quality model for J. Percy Priest Reservoir suitable for addressing a variety of management related issues. CE-QUAL-W2 (Version 2), a two-dimensional, longitudinal and vertical hydrodynamic and water quality model, was chosen for the study. The model is recognized as the state-of-the-art reservoir hydrodynamic and water quality model and has been successfully applied to over 100 different systems in the United States and throughout the world. It is the reservoir model of choice for TVA, USBR, USGS, USACE. and USEPA.
