Abstract

This research aims to analyze condition of the aquatic environment from the physical and chemical aspects of the waters and analyze the health of fish in supporting the sustainability of fish resources in the upper part of the Asahan River. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling method at nine stations obtained in situ and secondary data. The results showed that in general the quality of the waters upstream of the Asahan River was below the second class of river water quality standard. However, it is necessary to monitor regularly the parameters of ammonia and oil content in the waters of the Asahan River so as not to exceed the second class of river water quality standard, because this had implications for the development of the parasite population of Alitropus sp. In addition, the emergence of a population of fish lice (Alitropus sp.) has also caused many fish that used to inhabit the upper reaches of the Asahan River, there is only one species, namely Asa Fish (Osteochillus vittatus) and freshwater lobster (Cherax quadricarinatus). Several physical and chemical parameters of the waters have a positive effect on the development of the Alitropus typus parasite, including temperature, brightness, ammonia and pH.
