Abstract

The water permeabilities of phosphotidyl choline bilipid membranes have been measured in absence and presence of nitric acid and N02 respectively. The permeability coefficients increase on addition of nitric acid but decrease eventually to zero on addition of nitrogen dioxide. These results have a bearing on respiration processes involving membranes of the alveoli in the lung and also membranes of blood capillaries.
