Abstract

We synthesized hydroxyapatite containing cobalt ion and characterized electrochemical catalytic properties. The cobalt quantity analyzed by ICP-AES was approximately 1 wt%. The XRD patterns of catalyst was almost identical to the those of hydroxyapatite. And EDX mapping measurements show that cobalt species are well dispersed on the surface of catalyst. Therefore, we suggest that cobalt ions are randomly doped on the catalyst surface. The cyclic voltammetry of catalyst exhibits a weak oxidation wave at 1.10 V vs NHE. After bulk electrolysis 3 hours, the current density raised more than twice times. The evolution of hydrogen and oxygen was characterized by gas chromatography. The faradaic efficiency was calculated to be 95 %. The stability test by bulk electrolysis showed that the catalytic activity was maintained for more than 12 hours.
