Abstract

1. The water-operated gate of the proposed design eliminates the construction of a reinforced-concrete tower above a deep water intake. 2. The water-operated guard gate of the proposed design provides closing of the inlet opening fo the deep intake, namely, after opening the valve (in response to a command from the pontoon) and filling the tunnel with water, the gate surfaces. 3. This gate can cover openings located at any depth. The maximum depth is limited by the head for which the gate was designed. 4. Drawdown of the reservoir to the dead storage level is not necessary for closing the inlet opening. This permits more complete use of the river runoff during the years and, if necessary, conducting preventive maintenance and repairs also in the summer.
