Abstract
The classification of objects in the solar system is reviewed. It is outlined that the terrestrial planets, especially Venus, Earth and Mars might have a wet environment during the early evolution of the solar system but in the case for Venus nearly all the water evaporated, and due to climate change, also Mars became a dry planet. Water can be also found in the atmospheres of the giant planets. Also some of the objects belonging to the recently defined new category of objects in the solar system, the dwarf planets, might be covered by water ice.
