Abstract
Intensification of agricultural production, especially chemicalization of crop production or intensification of animal husbandry, leads to adverse changes in water pollution. It is necessary to take actions aimed at limiting the adverse changes. At the legislative and practical levels this can be achieved by establishing standards and rules of conduct as well as by optimizing the interactions between the agriculture, its market environment and the institutions involved in water management. The main purpose of this study is to characterize the supervision and the institutional support in terms of reduction of water pollution from agricultural sources in Poland. There were also indicated challenges for the selected institutions and business entities in the investigated scope, including the need for further cooperation aimed at developing optimal procedures and processes.
