Abstract

SynopsisWater losses were closely related to the amount of root growth, which in turn was increased almost linearly by increased water contents. Rubidium uptake was not consistently affected by the initial water contents to which the roots were exposed, nor was it related to the amount of root growth. There was some evidence that the uptake of the rubidium may be linked to the active transport of water from the roots to the plants.
