Abstract

This article analyzes factors of the increasing water-economic tensions in the southern zone of the West Siberian region, which are determined by natural and climatic features, as well as by anthropogenic impact on water resources, leading to depletion and qualitative deterioration thereof. Possibilities for reducing the water-supply deficit are considered, which can be implemented by the territorial redistribution of water from regions with excess river runoff to regions with water deficit and by improving technologies in agriculture, industry, and housing and communal services. The article emphasizes that agrarian production is unregulated: its efficiency is greatly determined by weather conditions, and its stability should be promoted by the development of land reclamation (irrigation and drainage). It is shown that the development of domestic production for the water-economic sector and the overcoming dependence on imports are the main ways to reduce the water-economic tensions, increase the quality of water resources, and improve the ecological situation and socioeconomic development conditions in the southern part of Western Siberia.
