Abstract

Experiments enabling a quantitative analysis of the effect of various factors on the interrelationships between sprinkler drop size distribution, drop velocity, and distribution pattern of the water on the ground, indicate that operating pressure is the most important factor. Higher pressures yield longer ranges, finer drops, and more even distribution. The advantages of a single nozzle may be realized by having it act alternately as a range-nozzle and distribution-nozzle through the insertion and extraction of a pin from the jet. Advantages and disadvantages of varying factors must be considered for each particular purpose.
