Abstract

ABSTRACT An efficient acrylamide grafted chitosan (AGCTS)-based polymer (AGCTS-based mimic 4-hydroxy benzoic acid imprinted polymer [AGMIP]) was synthesized using 4-hydroxy benzoic acid as a mimic template for the recognition of salicylic acid (SA) in aqueous solution. The influence of grafting parameters on grafting percentage of AGCTS was studied. AGMIP was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis. Adsorption process could be well described by Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherm model and the maximum adsorption capacity calculated for SA was 62 mg/g. The adsorption kinetic data was fitted with pseudo-second order equation. The experimental results suggest that AGMIP is a promising adsorbent for SA.
