Abstract

1. 1. Crangon vulgaris is hypoosmotic in sea-water and hyperosmotic in dilute sea-water. 2. 2. Crangon drinks the medium both in full strength and dilute sea-water, but the drinking rates are reduced in dilute sea-water. 3. 3. A new method of measuring urination is described. Crangon urinates about once every hour, but the rate is slightly higher in dilute media. 4. 4. The osmotic permeability is close to diffusional permeability in sea-water but the osmotic permeability increases and the diffusional permeability declines in dilute sea-water. The diffusional permeability is not dependent on an eyestalk hormone or on the external concentration of calcium ions.
